Overview
Programs from Thirteen/WNET New York's INNOVATION series portray amazing breakthroughs in medical technology involving the replacement of tissues and organs damaged by injury or degenerative diseases. ""The Human Body Shop"" shows progress being made in the development of technologically advanced prosthetics. How close are we to the development of replacement organs which are as good as the original, if not even better? Are we truly getting close to the appearance of a cyborg or bionic person?
In this lesson, students divide into groups and use a project-based learning approach to develop a model for an artificial replacement organ or limb that may possibly be developed in the not-too-distant future. In the course of designing and creating this model, students use math, science, technology, and mechanics skills. In order to determine an approach to their project, students learn about the structure and function of the particular organ/limb and its compo... |

Description: |
My Responsibility Project will help students understand what responsibility is at home, in school and in the community. A parent volunteer will teach the children how to use a digital camera to take pictures of each other being responsible at school. I will then send the camera home with each child so that their parents can take pictures of them being responsible at home and in the community. With these pictures, I will make a large poster of each child using the application Comic Life. Then I will post these big sized posters up on the walls in my classroom to encourage being responsible all year long. What better way to encourage being responsible that seeing all your classmates and yourself being responsible at school, at home and in the community. Each child will also give an oral report about their poster before it goes up on the wall and we will have a special culminating event one evening at school to celebrate our successful project. We will have a potluck to help embrac... |
