Title: Making History Through Protest

  Description: In the first lesson, students will be introduced to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, and be asked to discuss whether non-violent resistance has played a part in American history through the ages. Individually or in pairs, students will then investigate any of seven particular historical, social movements through Internet browsing. With information gained, students will build a 10-slide Keynote presentation complete with illustrations and transitions to enhance their project. Each Keynote, upon completion, will be presented to the class. In a second lesson, students will be presented with information regarding the 19-month takeover of Alcatraz Island by Native Americans. They will discuss this historical event and receive instructions on what materials they may use to gain more information during the field trip to the island.
