| |
Grade: |
7,8,9,10,11,12 |
| |
Description: |
Students will select from a list of (common) disabilities assicated with various handicapping conditions. Along with the list of disabilities will be definitions and examples in order to allow students to comprehend the various conditions. Students will then "select" a disability and then role play the disability with the classroom teacher. The student will simulate a discussion (less than 5 minutes) that will promote self-advocacy as the student explains his/her disability and then explains what s/he will need to support a successful classroom (or work) transition.
As a conclusion, students will write a short thank-you note to the teacher illuminating the disability and explaining what steps are necessary for his/her success in the classroom.
The reader is encouraged to review attachment identifying a list of possible (dis)abilities and is encouraged to add or subtract from the listing as necessary.
